How I Learned to Write a Good General Paper Essays

       A general paper essay or also known as GP essay is a literary composition in which a student is given the option of selecting his own essay topic and the student should prove in the essay that he could argue and discuss the topic with authority and in an effective way. I was in the year 12 at a sixth form college when we began to start the GP essay writing tasks. I learned that compared to the previous five-paragraph essays that we did in secondary school, the general paper essay followed a specific format and writing style based on the academic style guide provided by our lecturer.

I was initially confused in learning how to write a GP essay, but thanks to the essay writing lessons provide to us by our lecturer and the reading and studying that I did in the library, I eventually learned the basic guidelines for writing a general paper essay and apply those guidelines in my GP essay writing task. So now I am sharing with everyone the things I learned in writing my GP essay so that you would overcome the same essay writing problems that I encountered.

The guidelines in writing a general paper essay:

·         You should listen to the instructions provided by the lecturer such as the specific style guide for the format and the citation style for the bibliography and references. For the topic selection, our lecturer told us to avoid topics that are very general or vague, but instead select a specific topic that is feasible for us to perform a thorough research and possible for use to write about the topic within the submission deadline.

·         The structure of GP essays are similar to university essays that have a comprehensive introduction, body and conclusion. The introduction has a thesis statement that presents the argument, the body discusses the arguments and the supporting facts or evidence, and the conclusion summarises the discussions from the body.
