Learning to Write My Communications Essays

Tuesday, 30 August 2011

My bachelor's degree in mass communications involve various essay writing tasks related to the different fields of mass communications such as advertising, broadcasting, journalism, public relations, publishing, digital communication, and interpersonal communication. During my first year, we researched and wrote communications essays that involved the general field of communications, but with an emphasis on the specific fields in communications.

But there were communications essays that focused on the general area of communications and interpersonal communications. Since I was still in my first year, I sought help from my friends on how to research and write essays on communications and I read books and other materials on essay writing in the library and from various Internet websites. From the materials I read, I learned some basic tips or guidelines on how to write communications essays.

The basic tips include:

* The several factors that should be found in the contents of communications essays. The essay should allow the writer or the person that is the subject of the essay in sharing his own concerns and interests. Other factors include the essay should show communication activities of body language, listening and talking, and the essay should present information that is related and relevant for the topic.

* The structure of communications essays are similar to the basic structure of academic essays – the parts consisting of the introduction, body and conclusion. The introduction has a single paragraph that presents the topic and a thesis statement in the last part. The body contains several paragraphs with background and supporting information about the topic. The conclusion summarises the main points from the body.

Evaluating Art and Analyzing the Artist through the Art Essay

Monday, 8 August 2011

The art essay is usually done by evaluating a work or piece of art through writing. It is easier said than done. This is because students in art classes writing essays should understand the art piece before they can evaluate them. Further, evaluating is not as simple as it may seem because students should know the proper way of evaluating using the appropriate criteria.

  • Commenting and Giving Opinion – In writing the art essay, students need to have their own evaluation of the art piece being assigned. You cannot write an essay in art using the opinion or comments of other persons like your friend or an expert on the art work. Rather, your can include or make as the topic, your comment on the comment of an expert or more. In other words, there is no wrong answer to some extent.

  • Mechanics and Their Utilisation – With the art essay, as mentioned, there is no wrong answer. You will be marked through your opinion or comment and how you present and discuss it. Presenting and discussing are the ones you can do right and you can do these by demonstrating sufficient knowledge and research about the art work and art in general. The student should know the mechanics that compose art which include subject, medium, content and many others. You should also be able to discuss how well the artist used the mechanics in the art piece or pieces.

  • Analysing the Artist – In writing essays in art, you can analyse or understand what the artist wanted to come up with. Then, proceed with describing what the artist wanted to say through the art piece and sharing your feelings and thoughts about them. You must also include writing what you like and do not about the art work.
